Feature Request

We have some variables where the Variable NAME and Variable CONTENT need to be identical. This makes it easy to pick the variable name in the Doc360 Editor. We would like the ability to change the name as well as the content for the variable if we ever need to make updates. Currently, only the content can be edited after the variable is created. The only way to then make changes under this scenario would be to remove the deprecated variable from the articles and replace it with a different variable. This defeats the purpose of using a variable (update once, all articles automatically update). Can you please consider this a Feature Request? Thanks.

Our current authoring tool allows for variable "variants" when publishing content. For example, we have a variable called "model number." When publishing the same content for different hardware appliance models, we can specify a "variant" of that variable, for example: 5600, 4600, 7600, 9600, and 3600. This way we don't have to change variables or use conditional variables: We publish the same guide five times, once for each model number, with a different variable "variant."

In my variables, I'd like to include images, special characters, etc. For example, I'd like to be able to include an image of a button in a variable. Or, I'd like to include the following: <i class="fa-regular fa-sparkles" data-type="icon"></i> AI</p>

The selections under "Localization variables" are limited to translations of the existing EN variables. In the case of Feedback, for examples, this is a problem. The presets for Dislike are greyed-out, but 1) some of them are mistranslated in DE and 2) I would like to create custom Dislike presets that are not listed. Therefore, it should be possible to create new variables in categories where it makes sense (like Feedback).

It would be useful if it was possible to use variables in article titles. For example, if you use variables to insert product names into content (to minimise the documentation update effort necessary if a product name changes), you might need to use those variables in article titles (because some articles titles contain product names). But currently it is not possible to do so.

We would like to have the value of a variable change based on the version of our project. We use DOC360 for software documentation which mentions the software version in multiple articles. We would like the ability to have certain value of a variable depend on the Project version number. Want this ability in WYSIWYG editor.

I'd love to be able to have pre-defined variables or macros. For instance, the article name as a dynamic tag/dynamic variable that will insert the value of the article name depending on the article.

Currently, you can only apply inline styles to variables, but you cannot assign proper CSS classes. The workaround as for snippets/articles to switch to code view and add the class attribute manually is not available in the variable editor. Since variables are somehow intended to be used as inline snippets, this is a bit of a drawback.

It seems we can turn a heading into a variable, but we’re unable to embed a link within the text that has been made a variable. For instance, while working on an article, I need to include two variables in the first paragraph, which should link to other sections within the article. At the moment, it appears that I can either make the text a variable or a link, but not both.

I recently discovered that there is a "soft limit" of 200 for the allowed number of variables. It is not yet documented and I reported it to support. The limit should be much higher. At least 1000. For a small project you reach that limit very quickly.
