Change Variable Names
under review
Barbara Dreyer
We have some variables where the Variable NAME and Variable CONTENT need to be identical. This makes it easy to pick the variable name in the Doc360 Editor. We would like the ability to change the name as well as the content for the variable if we ever need to make updates. Currently, only the content can be edited after the variable is created. The only way to then make changes under this scenario would be to remove the deprecated variable from the articles and replace it with a different variable. This defeats the purpose of using a variable (update once, all articles automatically update). Can you please consider this a Feature Request? Thanks.

Hi Barbara, We've reviewed this request and added it to our roadmap. While it's not included in the Q3 plan, our Q4 scope is still being finalized. We'll keep you updated here if this item gets included in the Q4 cycle.

Variable names are static and need to be dynamic as our needs change over time.
For example, we have a variable named ISA and will now need to be IFO and now we'd need to delete the existing article, go find all the instances and retag with the new IFO variable.
This is not new technology as a variable has a unique ID and if you change the label, ie the name, it should not affect the functionality.

Barbara Dreyer we empathize the scenario you are referring to, but here is the tricky part: A variable inserted in multiple articles and they are in different article stages like published, draft and if we allow the variable names to be modified all the associated articles should published again, and ensure all contents are reflecting as expected in the KB site. This shouldn't be performed under business logic as we are not asking for user permission. We will evaluate this feature technically and get back to you. At the moment we are not proceeding with this request in our roadmap, though. Thanks for your suggestion.
