WYSIWYG Support for Insert Symbols
under review
Barbara Dreyer
Please consider providing wysiwyg support for inserting special characters such as symbols and entities in articles without the need to apply HTML markup in the Code View editor.
For example:
* Em Dash
* En Dash
* Copyright
* Registered
* Section
* Ellipsis
and more
(Note: An EN dash is not the same thing as a hyphen and it’s used for a very different purpose.)
Currently, it’s only possible to add them in Code View (or hope that copy/paste from a third-party app such as Word would actually work in Doc360).
These symbols are not available on a standard keyboard.
HTML has entities that can be added in Code View. But not all users know how to do this. It’s also time-consuming because it requires looking up the entity from a third-party web site such as https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_symbols.asp. It is also error-prone.
Please consider enhancing the wysiwyg editor to include an Insert > Symbol feature (similar to MS Word) where it would be possible to quickly and easily insert the entity visually. In MS Word, these entities are added to content via Insert > Symbol, where users can select different character sets based on a font selection. There is also a standard default list of common used symbols, such as EN and EM dash.
Thanks!

I agree with Barbara. These symbols are important in technical documentation. We need easy ways to insert them.

I'm reaching out to request the addition of essential symbols to Document360. These include checkmarks (✓), Cross Mark (❌), arrows (→), Copyright Symbol (©), Trademark Symbol (™), Registered Trademark Symbol (®), Paragraph Symbol (¶) and other such symbols. These symbols are crucial for conveying meaning, formatting text, and enhancing document clarity. Their inclusion would greatly improve the platform's usability and align it with industry standards.

Until they get them added:
If you're on Windows, you can use [Win][.] to access a full list of options including general punctuation.
I use alt codes for a lot of those (assuming you have a numberpad). On a mac it would be the Option key.
Alt+26 = →
Alt+27 = ←
Alt+29 = ↔
Alt+0150 = – (en dash)
Alt+0151 = — (em dash)
Alt+0153 = ™
Alt+0169 = ©
Alt+0174 = ®
Alt+0182 = ¶

Hi Barbara, thanks for your feedback. We understand that the insertion of the symbols will make your work easier in document360. But unfortunately, we don't have a plan to incorporate this into our current roadmap. We will check the technical feasibility of incorporating this in our future roadmap. We will keep you posted on any updates on the same. Your understanding and patience are appreciated.
