We use snippets for small sets of instructions that are included throughout our documentation. I'd like to be able to include variables such as buttons and field labels within the snippets.

Specifically, we are exploring the possibility of allowing users to incorporate content reuse elements such as variables and glossary terms within a snippet.
Once these elements are inserted into the snippet, they will be displayed as "variable.variableName" and "glossary.glossaryName" respectively, in a manner consistent with article content.
We welcome any additional feedback or suggestions you may have regarding this request.

Thiru That sounds exactly what we're looking for, so long as once a variable is updated it also updates within the snippet as it currently does when found in an article.

I maintain different tables that are reused in many places as snippets. I also have sections of content saved as snippets that compile those tables, but not always in the same order. It would be very useful to allow snippets to contain other snippets.

Thiru I'd like to add to this, we use variables for product names too but in not allowing variables within a snippet if a product is changed we have to go into each snippet and manually adjust the name, this can be quite time consuming

We use variables for product names, company names, and common words with unique spelling. A declaration (translate="no") can be applied to the variable so machine translation will leave it intact. We like that. But we need to be able to use these variables inside our snippets. Otherwise, we will have to manually type the text we have variables for inside snippets. Makes it hard to use snippets consistently.
