A blacklist option (i.e allow all registrations except those from specified domains) would suit our workflow better than the current whitelist (i.e. only accept registrations from specified domains) option.

Hello Dustin Smith, thank you for your patience; we have introduced this feature in our recent release.
For private projects you can allow/block specific domains from being used at the time of reader self-registration. You can do this by adding the domain name in (Settings → Access & Security → Access → Reader self-registration → Add domain) and choosing Allow/Block.
