Persist Breadcrumbs

When the left navigation panel is collapsed, the breadcrumbs to a page also disappears. It's when the panel is collapsed that the breadcrumbs make the most sense. They should persist.

I see this one was silently implemented :)

Sr. Technical Writer here from Preset.io — I just sent an e-mail to Support about this topic and was asked to create a feedback ticket, but I see it's already under consideration... though, unfortunately, this thread is from 2019 and the issue has persisted, which is quite surprising.
Generally-speaking, the behavior of the current breadcrumb implementation is not consistent with standards used on the majority of other platforms.
To clarify:
• Breadcrumbs are meant to be clickable to support navigation. Current implementation is not clickable.
• Breadcrumbs are meant to be persistent to enable user access at all times, no matter where they are in the documentation. Current implementation disappears after the user browses to a different category.
There was some mention in this thread of enabling users to place breadcrumbs at the bottom of the screen, which makes zero sense. Breadcrumbs are supposed to always be at the top of a screen to support user visual tracking when a screen loads.
Hope this issue can be fixed so that the platform is aligned with the competition. The current implementation is not viable or user friendly.
Otherwise we love the product and are very happy with its feature set.

We have a plan to make the breadcrumbs movable at the bottom instead of top section. We keep the top section as stable to easy find where they are with the documentation.

Gayathri Ravi: Could you please clarify as to what is meant by "bottom section"? I believe the issue is not the vertical position of the breadcrumb, but rather the horizontal position which causes the breadcrumb path to not be fully visible when the lefthand navigation is open, and not visible at all when the lefthand navigation is collapsed. Attached is an image illustrating one potential design which accomplishes this, from this article on breadcrumb navigation design: https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/03/breadcrumbs-in-web-design-examples-and-best-practices/

Gayathri Ravi: Moving it to the bottom would be counter-intuitive. That's not a place where users are used to seeing breadcrumbs. Can you confirm if they will be clickable links? Currently minimizing the left panel gives the user more real estate to view an article. It's when the left panel is collapsed that they need the bread crumbs to navigate back. If the left panel is open... they can already click the desired topic from the respective category.

Make breadcrumbs usable by moving their location

Breadcrumbs appear to be relatively useless in their current location above the lefthand navigation. Would they not be more useful if they were located above the Article Title, so more of the path would be visible?
