I put due dates on articles and I would like that the assignees receive a notification that the due date expires, for example in 1 day.

Hilde Verweire we suggest you to leverage article review reminders option under Content Tools > Documentation section. You can assign reminders to intend recipients and notify them for regular intervals to complete the review.
