Increase Maximum Category Hierarchy Levels

The current limitation on category hierarchy depth (maximum of 7 levels) restricts the ability to organize content in a way that reflects complex structures and business needs.
For larger knowledge bases with detailed content segmentation, this constraint forces teams to either oversimplify category structures or create workarounds that can reduce clarity and usability.
Requested Enhancement:
Increase or remove the limit on category hierarchy levels to allow for deeper, more flexible content organization. Ideally, this would include:
- Support for more than 7 nested category levels
- Scalable performance to ensure navigation remains efficient
- Clear visual structure in the UI to maintain usability at deeper levels
Business Impact:
- Enables more accurate representation of complex content structures
- Improves content discoverability and logical grouping
- Reduces need for workarounds or inconsistent categorization
- Supports scalability as the knowledge base grows
Current Behavior:
- Category hierarchy is limited to 7 levels
Expected Behavior:
- Users can create and manage deeper category hierarchies beyond the current limit

Hi Estimated Mandrill,
Thank you for the detailed feedback and for outlining the business impact so clearly.
We understand how the current 7-level category hierarchy can be limiting for complex and large-scale knowledge bases. Your need for deeper and more flexible content structuring is well acknowledged.
At the same time, expanding this limit involves both technical and user experience considerations. From a technical standpoint, we need to ensure system performance, scalability, and efficient data handling at deeper levels. From a user experience perspective, it’s critical to maintain clear navigation, usability, and content discoverability without introducing complexity or confusion.
As a next step, we will be evaluating both these aspects to determine the most optimal approach for supporting deeper hierarchies while preserving a seamless experience.
We’ll keep you posted as we make progress.
