Customizable PDF Export for Knowledge Base Articles
under review
Akash Sivaraman
Currently, when exporting an article from the Knowledge Base (KB) site as a PDF, the exported file uses a default title and does not display the article’s last updated date. It would be highly beneficial to provide the following enhancements:
Custom PDF Title: Allow users to specify a custom title for the exported PDF instead of using the default article title.
Article Updated Date: Include the "Last Updated" date of the article in the exported PDF for better context and version tracking.
Summarizing the request
-> Title Customization - The readers from the KB site should have the flexibility to add a custom title while exporting the articles to PDF with Custom Font colors
-> Article Updated Date: Include the "Last Updated" date of the article in the exported PDF for better context and version tracking.
-> Footer Customization: The Footer should contain the name of article-date or version-Language code
-> Cover page - The ability to add an end cover page for the PDF's
-> Status indicator - The ability to add a status indicator (New, Updated) in the name field.

PDF Export: match file name to article title

When I export an article as PDF, the file has a generic name like "Documentation [KB name]" and I have to manually rename the file to match the article title. Instead, the file name of the download should automatically match the article title.

Pdf title - ability to customize title when using Export PDF

E.g. have a default title for a template that can be overridden by user
and/or be able to set a code block for a particular pdf template so title can populate dynamically depending on javascript.

Hi Competitive Dingo,
Thank you for the additional details.
We’ll merge this requirement with the existing PDF naming/template customization request that is already planned.
The use case of:
Having a default title at the template level
Allowing users to override it when needed
Supporting dynamic title population (e.g., via variables or script-based logic)
will be considered as part of that broader enhancement.

Custom file name for pdf

It would be helpful if you could choose to have pdf file name set by article or category name or to apply a custom file name within the template e.g. all exports using this template should be called XXXX.pdf

Hi Competitive Dingo,
Thank you for sharing this request.
The ability to customize PDF file naming (based on article name, category name, or a custom template-based name) is already part of an existing planned enhancement.
We’ll merge this request with the ongoing initiative and consider your use case as part of that scope.
We’ll share updates as this progresses.

We need this feature too. It would also be good to have the ability to apply settings for the title in the template section e.g. use custom or use article name or use category name etc.

My support ticket #336546 include PDF template settings not mentioned in this request to which I was referred.
This is why I here add details for understanding and voting to get a way to:
1) set SIZES to headings H2, H3, H4 and corresponding TOC levels
2) achieve PROPORTIONAL SPACING
Add-on to attached screenshot:
* Content heading1 needs to be a lot smaller
* Need relevant font size differences between headings 1,2,3 and 4.
* No bold unless to accentuate a first title level.
* TOC headings need to reflect the content heading sizes.
* Line spaces are today off proportion at all levels which breaks reading flow.
* Line height is normally font size × max 1.5. For text 12 pt it means ~17pt.
