I am raising this feedback on behalf of the customer.
"There’s no need for the first root category to be expanded by default in the portal. It would be better if it remained collapsed. From a usability standpoint, there’s no specific reason to keep it open—I don’t need to edit or work on those articles more than any others. All articles should be treated equally.
Additionally, if I expand a category and then perform an action, I’d expect it to remain expanded so I can continue working within it without having to expand it again."

Thank you for sharing this suggestion regarding the category expansion behavior in the portal. We understand that keeping the first root category expanded by default may not always be necessary and can affect navigation efficiency.
We’ll review the feasibility and user experience impact of introducing the following improvements:
- Keeping all categories collapsed by default on initial load.
- Preserving the expanded or collapsed state of categories after performing actions, ensuring a smoother workflow.
We will assess the technical and design implications before planning this enhancement. We’ll share updates once we have further clarity on implementation possibilities.

Would also be great if we can change this in the settings for the Knowledge Base site as well! I would like all categories to be collapsed when first opening the KB. Thanks!
