Article-Level Setting for Table of Contents Default State

Add the ability to set whether table of contents sections are expanded or collapsed by default at the individual article level, rather than only as a site-wide setting. This would allow content managers to override the site-wide setting for specific articles. For example, articles with large volumes of alphabetically organized reference material would benefit from having TOC sections collapsed by default so users can expand only the section they need, while keeping the site-wide setting as "always expanded" for regular articles.

Hi Required Flamingo,
Thank you for sharing this request.
We understand the need for article-level control over TOC expansion behavior, allowing content managers to override the site-wide setting for specific articles.
This would be particularly useful for articles containing large reference sections, glossaries, or alphabetically organized content, where having TOC sections collapsed by default can improve navigation and reduce visual clutter, while still allowing the rest of the site to use an expanded TOC experience.
We’ll take this as an improvement request and evaluate the feasibility of introducing an article-level override for TOC expand/collapse behavior.
This will be reviewed based on priority, implementation scope, and customer traction, and we’ll share updates if this is taken up in future planning.
