Allow for manual notification for followed articles and categories

As it is now, any time an article or section is modified the user gets an email notification. This could get very noisy quickly and cause users to unsubscribe. I'd like to be able to manually set articles or sections as "To notify" so we can decide when users should get an email. What I have in mind is similar to the Status indicator feature where even if I have that feature disabled in general settings, I can turn on that indicator for a particular article in the Article settings > More article options.

Hi Mohamed, it would also be great if readers could set preferences for the notifications they receive after following an article or category. I've received feedback that it would be good if a reader could opt for a weekly/monthly notification email with all updates from their followed articles and categories. This would definitely help with preventing overwhelming readers with notifications. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Medieval Hedgehog, We understand that receiving notifications for every article or section update can quickly become overwhelming for users, and your suggestion to allow manual control over which articles or sections trigger notifications makes a lot of sense. A model similar to the Status Indicator - where notifications can be toggled per article - would give teams greater flexibility and control.
We’ll keep this suggestion under review as we continue to evaluate ways to improve the notification experience. If it’s picked for our roadmap, we’ll make sure to keep you informed.
