Ambuj, newly created article also shows up in recently modified article if it is just published. That is the behaviour as of now.

Hello Ambuj - Thank you for reaching out to us. 
This data is based on the created articles. 
As a user, we would have created an article today and the same would be modified today or tomorrow. Hence, as per the logic, both are to be displayed in the respective widgets.
When the article is only modified then it will be displayed in recently modified and not in recently created which is by design for now. CC: Thiru
