The new "Workflow" dropdown introduced in the Sept 2021 release causes an email notification to be sent to all "Admin" Team Member account (and probably also the "Owner").
This happens even though there is currently NO notification active for "Workflow status changes". and even if there is no configured "SMTP" channel to send any events to email addresses.
Now, it's possible that what's happening instead (based on my testing) is that an email gets sent to the Team Member account's listed email address when THAT team member sets a "Workflow" status change of "In Review" or "Draft", but if so, that's even worse.
TL;DR - Workflow status updates of any sort should NOT generate any notifications unless expressly mapped in Settings > Notifications.
